Open thread: Who is the best non-QB option for the Lions at 7?

Pride of Detroit

Whether Brad Holmes wants to admit it or not, the Detroit Lions are in rebuild mode, which means they’ve got a lot of holes to patch up and it’ll be at least a couple years before we’re talking about contending. Many would love for the Lions to go after their next franchise QB at seventh overall, but several draft experts are expecting the Lions to address either a wide receiver or linebacker at this point.

There are plenty of non-QBs on the board that the Lions should seriously consider going after, including, but not limited to: wide receivers DeVonta Smith, Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle, linebacker Micah Parsons, or local Michigan EDGE Kwity Paye, among others.

Today’s Question of the Day is…

If the Lions don’t select a QB and don’t trade the pick, who should they take?

My answer: Alabama WR DeVonta Smith.

There is a real possibility that the Lions will be without Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones AND Danny Amendola next year, leaving the team with scraps at WR. No disrespect to Quintez Cephus, but I don’t think he’s ready to take on 100+ targets in his second year at the pro level.

Smith is a prospect that has seen some of his hype die down due to his very skinny frame, but I don’t want to overthink him as a prospect. The kid won the Heisman award as a receiver for a reason. No one in the country could get open and come close to finding the end zone as much as Smith, and on film, you can see what makes him so special.

Adding Smith to the Lions’ receiving corps gives Goff a playmaking threat that can allow him to stretch the field and add some spark into the passing game that they may be lacking after free agency.

Your turn.
