Report: Lions to host free agent safety Damontae Kazee for a visit

Pride of Detroit

The Detroit Lions are finally looking to bolster their secondary in free agency after letting some of the better, more expensive options pass them by. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Lions are scheduled to host former Falcons safety Damontae Kazee for a visit next week.

Kazee, a former fifth-round pick from the Falcons, has been a starter for Atlanta for the past three seasons. He had a breakout year in 2018, just his second year in the NFL, by snatching a league-leading seven interceptions to go along with 10 passes defended.

However, Kazee tore his Achilles just four weeks into the 2020 season and missed the rest of the year. Obviously, an Achilles tear is one of the more serious injuries for an NFL player, so it’s no surprise the Lions want to bring Kazee in before potentially signing him.

Detroit is in significant need of safety help, as it appears they will not be bringing back Duron Harmon after just one season. As of now, the Lions have Tracy Walker and Will Harris as their projected starters, but bringing in a player with as high of a ceiling as Kazee would instantly improve the room.

If the Lions intend on signing Kazee, they’ll have some competition. The Dallas Cowboys are also reportedly bringing in Kazee for a visit next week.
