Open thread: Will the Lions make the playoffs before the Pistons do?

Pride of Detroit

The Detroit Pistons officially landed the number one overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on Tuesday night, a feat they had only a 14 percent chance of doing. While it was all luck, a Detroit pro sports team is finally number one at something again, and the hope is it’ll go a long ways to turning around the franchise.

Question of the day: Who will make the playoffs in their respective league first, the Pistons or the Lions?

My answer: Now I have to go with the Pistons.

If you’d asked me before Tuesday night, with the way the lottery typically plays out I would’ve probably leaned towards the Detroit Lions. With now seven teams from each conference making the playoffs, it’s a lot easier for the defense to sneak a Jared Goff led team in a a sixth or seventh seed.

For the Pistons, however, a number one overall pick is a game changer, and likely enough to push the team’s young core towards a playoff push, even if it is as a seventh or eight seed.

Regardless, there’s reason for hope in Detroit sports once more. Who do you think will reach the playoffs first?
