Out with the old and in with the new. The Bob Quinn/Matt Patricia era is completely gone. Sure many players they signed or drafted are still on the roster, however, it doesn’t take too long of a look to see the difference in this team now as compared to the last few seasons of Patricia.
Sheila Ford Hamp did her coaching caravan search after last season ended and decided on Brad Holmes to be her new general manager and Dan Campbell to be her new head coach. So far from the coaching staff, Campbell has assembled to free agency to the draft and OTAs, this looks like and sounds like a completely different franchise.
Brad Holmes laid a foundation for the team in the draft by building in the trenches. The Lions have the possibility of being pretty good on both the offensive and defensive lines. That’s a good starting point.
There is talent at running back. Combined with the offensive line being a strength, the run game should be pretty good. Meanwhile, the defensive line has depth and should do well at the point of attack.
Now there are still questions that linger at linebacker, the secondary, receiver, and even at quarterback. However, the atmosphere at Allen Park has been like night and day compared to the previous regime.
Already Dan Campbell has made a big change in the Lions’ culture. Eventually winning has to come for it to be completely successful, but this has been a big start for the new regime.
Change is a constant in life, but some changes are bigger than others. One major change for the Lions and their fans is seeing Matthew Stafford in a Los Angeles Rams uniform.
Stafford is also seeking a change from losing. He didn’t request a trade from Detroit because he hated the city. He simply wants an opportunity to win. Yet if he does have success in Tinseltown and wins the Super Bowl, will that devastate Detroit?
