A last minute trade the Detroit Lions should consider

SideLion Report

There’s been much media attention given to a Detroit Lions rival quarterback this offseason. But what if this controversy in Green Bay had a more direct effect on the Lions roster than only on the team’s ability to win a couple of games? For a minute, let’s speculate that a certain quarterback doesn’t show up to play for the Packers this season, what does that mean for a possible trade target on their roster?

This is where the Lions could capitalize. In this scenario, Detroit would be looking to make a trade to acquire wide receiver Davante Adams. Unlikely or not, we really won’t know until Aaron Rodgers makes a decision, likely not until he is scheduled to report to training camp on July 27 before camp begins on July 28, or even until the preseason is over and the regular season is about to kick off.

A last-minute trade for a legitimate number one wide receiver with Adams’ skillset would immediately elevate this Lions’ offensive prowess. Maybe our heads are in the clouds a bit with this scenario, but the controversy in Green Bay could shake out in any number of directions with players staying and going based on Rodgers’ actions. So why not dream a bit and talk about Adams lining up in Honolulu Blue?

Adams has hinted at leaving if the Packers don’t have Rodgers behind center. As long as the Detroit Lions don’t have to give up too much, Adams would be a welcomed addition to the receiving corps. He averaged a crazy 98.1 yards per game in 2020 with 18 touchdowns on 115 receptions.

To put it bluntly, Adams was a force to be reckoned with. Surprisingly, the Lions were the only team to slow him down to the tune of three catches for 36 yards and no scores in their first matchup last season. But Adams got his revenge in Detroit later in the season when he grabbed seven balls for 115 yards and a touchdown.

If the Lions were to make a last-second trade like this happen, Adams would immediately be the top receiving threat in Detroit and have all the opportunities to put up stats similar to 2020s 1,374 receiving yards. And the Motor City would be happy to have him, not to mention how excited Lions quarterback Jared Goff would be to have such a receiving threat to throw the ball to.

Crazy trade possibility or not, we’re nearing crunch time for the Packers and Rodgers. This scenario captures the potential fallout beyond the green and gold’s quarterback situation. The Detroit Lions could be there to pick up the pieces if things continue to trend south for the division rival.
