The “Check the Report” days are over in Detroit. On Thursday, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided plenty of injury updates after Wednesday’s physical practice that saw many players walk off early.
Campbell said the plan this week was to bring the intensity for the first two padded practices then pull back significantly on Thursday. As such, the Lions are only doing an extended walkthrough on Thursday as a day of rest.
Here are the updates he provided on some specific players.
Julian Okwara: Has a rib contusion, and should be back soon.
“We’ll find out more today, but I think he got a little bit of a bruise, kind of contusion of the ribs. He’s fine. He should be fine. So I expect him to be out there.”
Michael Brockers: Is essentially getting the veteran treatment and days of rest.
“Brock’s a 10-year vet, and he’s slugged it out for a long time now, and we kind of know who what he can do, so we’re just trying to be smart.”
D’Andre Swift: Dealing with some groin tightness, so they’re simply limiting his reps.
“He’s had kind of a tight groin, and so he’s out there practicing, he’s pushing, we’re getting good reps, and then we’re being smart with him. And every day, we give him just a little bit more.”
Tyrell Crosby: Has a Grade-1 hamstring injury and will miss time.
“His looks like about a grade one right now, so he’s going to be down a little bit. We think this could be a good week (out of practice).”
Jerry Jacobs: Dealing with a contusion after getting stepped on.
“He got stepped on in the thigh I was like, ‘Okay, well he’s good.’ He’s good. He’ll be a little sore, but it’s not like he pulled a muscle or something.”
Evan Brown: Removed from the reserve/NFI list.
So it sounds like apart from Crosby, none of these injuries are considered too serious. Nice to see a little transparency from the coaching staff this year.
