Lions CB Jeff Okudah being evaluated for a possible Achilles injury

The Detroit Lions lost their Week 1 game to the San Francisco 49ers 41-33, but they may be in danger of also losing their starting cornerback, Jeff Okudah, for the season.

Okudah went down in the fourth quarter with an apparent lower leg injury. He managed to walk off the field with a trainer by his side and made his way over to the trainer’s table for a quick examination. That didn’t last long and he made his way to the Lions’ tunnel and took a ride on the cart up to the locker room.

“We’re checking him out now,” coach Dan Campbell said of Okudah after the game. “We know, of course, it’s somewhere around the ankle. Could be an Achilles. We will know a lot more this afternoon, hopefully, or tomorrow morning.”

If it is indeed an Achilles injury, Okudah will most likely be shut down for the entire year as these types of injuries take months to recover from. If it’s only an ankle sprain, he could return much sooner, and possibly even be ready to go next week.

When asked to expand on what he knew about the injury, and possibly receiving a worst-case scenario outlook, Campbell elaborated, “Yeah, I don’t know. I know that they checked that (Achilles) out and they said that could be a possibility. But we don’t know for sure, so I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves with it.”
