All week, we’ve heard from Philadelphia and Detroit fans thinking this could finally be the week that Dan Campbell picks up his first victory as head coach of the Detroit Lions. If you’re like me, that’s a terribly disconcerting feeling. Expectations are a very dangerous thing in football, just ask a Michigan fan like myself.
The Lions are in a very precarious situation, staring down a potential 0-8 record at their bye next week. While there were no expectations that this team would compete for a playoff spot, going winless into a Week 9 bye is not exactly a great way to kickstart a rebuild of culture, when this franchise has already had a culture of losing looming over their head for the past, I don’t know, seven decades. Will one win suddenly turn things around? Of course not, but it would sure be nice to see Campbell smile again and, more importantly, watch players as their months and months of hard work finally pay off with a win.
So is this the week they do it? The Philadelphia Eagles are certainly vulnerable. Our staff made their predictions this week, and the consensus is… there is no consensus. Pride of Detroiters are split nearly in half in their predictions for Sunday. Here are our picks:
Kyle Yost (7-0): 26-21 Eagles
John Whiticar (7-0): 27-17 Eagles
Jeremy Reisman (6-1): 20-16 Eagles
Erik Schlitt (6-1): 24-23 Lions
Hamza Baccouche (5-2): 28-17 Eagles
Alex Reno (5-2): 27-20 Eagles
Jerry Mallory (5-2): 24-20 Lions
Andrew Kato (5-2): 19-17 Lions
Ryan Mathews (5-2): 27-20 Lions
Kellie Rowe (5-2): 20-17 Lions
Mike Payton (5-2): 21-13 Lions
Chris Perfett (4-3): 19-19 tie
Morgan Cannon (3-1): 23-20 Lions
Now let’s hear what you have to say. Who wins this?
