Lions punter Jack Fox sets NFL records in first half vs. Browns

SideLion Report

Punter Jack Fox has been one of the Lions’ best players all season, and in the first half on Sunday he set a couple NFL records when he reached 100 career punts.

It’s been an ugly first half in Cleveland, as the Browns lead the Lions 13-0. Detroit punter Jack Fox has punted three times, averaging close to 43 yards per with one downed inside-the-20.

Fox entered Sunday fourth in the league in punting average (49.3 yards per kick), and he’s tied for fourth in net average (43.0).

With his third punt in the first half Sunday, Fox happened to reach an even 100 punts for his career. In the process of reaching that threshold, he set the highest mark in gross and net yards per punt for an NFL punter through 100 career punts.

Jack Fox is a bright spot in an otherwise dismal Lions season

This side of running back D’Andre Swift, Fox has a case to be called the Lions’ best player this season. An 0-8-1 team with one of the worst offenses in the league gives the punter plenty of work, and Fox has also been among the best in the league so far this season. He’s also 1-for-1 as a passer for 17 yards, on a fake punt against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7, so even with a small sample to note he has also been the Lions’ best quarterback this season.
