3 most overrated Detroit Lions players entering the 2022 season

Entering the 2022 season, here are three most overrated Detroit Lions players.

Coming off a 3-13-1 season in 2021, the Detroit Lions seem to be on a good track. But they still have a lot to prove, as a team and individually in some cases, before they can get some league-wide acknowledgement and respect.

With training camp here, the stretch run of preparation for the 2022 season is starting. The Lions showed they would operate a meritocracy last year in determining the final 53 to go into the season with, and this year’s camp is sure to be the same with an eye on putting more marks in the win column.

Given the lack of acknowledgement the Lions generally get, determining their most underrated players entering the new season is fairly easy.

But on the flipside, with a naturally smaller list of candidates, here are the three most overrated Detroit Lions players heading into the 2022 season.

3. DL Michael Brockers

Lions general manager Brad Holmes tapped into his Rams roots to acquire Brockers for a 2023 seventh-round pick last offseason. The idea was he would bring veteran leadership to a very young team, and be a force on the field. He has certainly embraced his role as a leader, but his on-field performance left a lot to be desired last year.

Even taking into account the natural downgrade in talent around him, Brockers notably dropped from five sacks in 2020 to one (which came in Week 2) last year. He also went from 10 quarterback hits to one, and from 11 pressures to five.

Brockers could be a surprise cut in the coming weeks, or he could be traded. Any way you slice it, he’s no longer working next to Aaron Donald and got exposed as overrated in his first season as a Lion.
