Jared Goff should not be totally overlooked as a fantasy streamer for Week 8

SideLion Report

Jared Goff has had a rough run lately, but he shouldn’t be dismissed as a fantasy streaming option in Week 8.

Jared Goff was QB5 through Week 4 this season. Now, through Week 7, he is QB17. Accounting for six turnovers and not throwing a touchdown pass in either game on each side of a Week 6 bye will do that to you. The New England Patriot and Dallas Cowboys are also pretty tough defenses, and the Lions played them on the road.

The Lions return home to Ford Field in Week 8 to take on the Miami Dolphins. Goff’s home/road splits this season, as might be expected, are dramatic.

Home: 283 yards per game, 10 touchdowns, two interceptions, 107.7 passer rating
Road: 244.7 yards per game, one touchdown, four interceptions, 72.1 passer rating

So if Goff is going to get back on a better track, a home game looks like a good time to do it. His Week 8 matchup is also pretty good.

Jared Goff should not be overlooked as a fantasy streamer for Week 8

Entering Week 8, the Dolphins are allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (20.47 per game; Yahoo! scoring). Lamar Jackson’s Week 2 still tilts the numbers, but four quarterbacks have had multiple passing touchdowns against them (over their last six games), and their three interceptions of rookie Kenny Pickett in Week 7 were their first interceptions since Week 1. They have allowed 11 touchdown passes (albeit only three over their last three games), and 7.5 yards per attempt.

Miami’s secondary is also very banged up.

Having wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in the lineup after he suffered a head injury (but not a full-blown concussion, apparently) last week will obviously be very helpful to Goff. Before the practice week starts Wednesday, it’s looking good on that front.

Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert are the quarterbacks on bye in Week 8. Goff is 56 percent rostered in Yahoo! leagues and 46.9 percent rostered in ESPN leagues, so he actually stretches close to the 50 percent rostered or less threshold for a streamer.

The range of outcomes is high for Goff in Week 8, as it is most weeks. But he shouldn’t be completely overlooked as a streaming option, just based the residue of his very rough last two games. A new week is a new evaluation, and the Lions’ signal caller has QB1 potential this week.
