The Lions name their 2023 team captains

Two more days until the Detroit Lions kick off the 2023 NFL season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and we now know who will be the team’s captains for the upcoming year.

Head coach Dan Campbell revealed the captains at the onset of his pre-practice press conference on Tuesday, the final practice before the team plays the opener. The captains are voted on by the players.

There are three offensive captains:

  • QB Jared Goff
  • RT Penei Sewell
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown

On defense, LB Alex Anzalone and EDGE Charles Harris were bestowed the honor of the captaincy. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin earned the nod for the special teams units.

“We’re fortunate to have a lot of guys that are really, I would call, leaders on this team, so we’re in a good spot, but congratulations to those guys,” Campbell said.
