Lions running back Mohamed Ibrahim got his first NFL action on Sunday. His time was ended abruptly with a scary injury.

Ibrahim, a rookie from Minnesota signed to the practice squad last week, left the game after his very first NFL touch. Upon being tackled on his kickoff return, Ibrahim suffered a dislocated hip.

Players from both teams immediately signaled for medical attention for Ibrahim. He was carted off the field after being immobilized and stabilized by trainers.

After the game, head coach Dan Campbell indicated Ibrahim will not travel home with the team. He needed emergency surgery on the injured hip.

“He’s going to stay here overnight,” Campbell told reporters. “He’s tough. I hate that for him, but that certainly puts a strain on our team.”

Campbell added that they expect Ibrahim to be okay, but that’s for general purposes and not football-related.

Ibrahim went undrafted in part because of a lengthy injury history in college that included a torn Achilles and multiple ankle injuries. Here’s hoping Ibrahim will be okay and home soon.
