Ex-Lions kicker Riley Patterson signs with the Browns

USA Today

It didn’t take long for Riley Patterson to find a new NFL home. Less than a week after being waived by the Lions, Patterson has signed on with the Cleveland Browns.

Patterson lost an in-season kicking battle to Michael Badgley, who has kicked for the Lions for the last two games. A lack of field goal range and two missed extra points were primary factors.

The Browns added Patterson to their practice squad after regular kicker Dustin Hopkins was injured in Cleveland’s Week 16 win over the Texans. Hopkins’ return is questionable for the final two weeks as the Browns make a playoff push of their own.
