Lions reportedly signing former Vikings starting kicker to practice squad

Just a few weeks back Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes spoke to media in his end of summer presser and he said that while Jake Bates has the job, the Lions would look to add another kicker to their practice squad. A veteran guy preferably.

Well, the Lions did just that. They’re reportedly planning to add former Vikings starter Greg Joseph to their practice squad.

Joseph has been in the NFL since 2018 and he’s had stints with the Dolphins, Browns, Panthers, Packers, Vikings, Titans and Bucs. He was the Vikings starter from 2021-2023, but the team decided to go another route after the 2023 season. Joseph was with the Packers this summer, but they chose to stick with Anders Carlson

Joseph has an 82.6 kicking percentage. He’s gone 100-121 and his long is a 61-yarder he kicked in 2022. It was a walk off winner.

Bates will continue to hold down the job and if he continues to play well, there’s nothing to worry about. If he doesn’t, then Joseph is there as backup option.
