The Lions should look to bring former Michigan cornerback and Detroit native back home to help during injuries, seems like a no-brainer

The Detroit Lions are dealing with injuries as everyone and their mother have and will point out to you for the next weeks and beyond. They took a hit to their cornerback room on Sunday night when they lost both Carlton Davis and Khalil Dorsey for the rest of the season. Now they need some help.

The good news is there is some help out there from a guy that a lot of Lions fans probably know already. He’s also a guy who probably grew up as a Lions fan. We’re talking about former Wolverines cornerback Ambry Thomas.

The Martin Luther King grad has spent his entire career with the 49ers since they took him in the third-round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He had a pretty decent run with the 49ers really good defense, but never quite cracked the starting lineup.

He played 42 regular season games for them and started 11 of them. Last year he started six games for the 49ers in the regular season and then started all of their playoff games including the NFC Championship game against the Lions. He did struggle in the playoffs, but he fared well in the regular season.

The thing is that the Lions aren’t going to start him. They’re likely to do something similar to last year where one of the cornerback spots was just kind of played by a committee of guys. Thomas can be a part of that committee.

Thomas was waived off of injured reserve by the 49ers on Tuesday. He is healthy and ready to go. We’ll see if the Lions go in on him. Seems like a no-brainer.
