Jason Aldean honors Charlie Kirk at metro Detroit show

The festive mood turned momentarily serious at Jason Aldean’s Thursday night (Sept. 11) concert as he saluted his late friend Charlie Kirk after a “rough couple of days.”

The country star — not usually very talkative during his shows — addressed Kirk’s death for two minutes before a sold-out crowd at Pine Knob Music Theatre in suburban Detroit. The tribute came a day after the conservative activist and rising political figure was assassinated during a college event.
“I couldn’t get through tonight without addressing something that happened yesterday, as you guys well know,” Aldean said. “An amazing person by the name of Charlie Kirk was murdered yesterday in Utah.”

He applauded Kirk for having stepped up in 2023 to defend his song “Try That in a Small Town,” which Aldean went on to dedicate Thursday to the late conservative leader.

Kirk was “one of the best people ever. This is not the guy you go after, is what I’m trying to say,” Aldean continued. “And it’s a weird country that we live in, when you start taking people out because you disagree with their opinions. That’s not what we’re about here.”
