As the Detroit Lions and the rest of the NFL cut down their rosters to 53 players, head coach Dan Campbell claimed that the team will be active on the waiver wire.

Here are some of the other team’s notable cuts that could be fits with the Lions.

TE Jacob Hollister

The Lions could benefit from a good blocking tight end and Jacob Hollister fits the bill. He also can provide some depth in case of injury. In a scenario where the Lions do sign him, he’d spend the first few weeks battling tight end Darren Fells for that number two spot.

C Matt Skura

After two solid seasons as the Baltimore Ravens center, Matt Skura signed with the Miami Dolphins to be their starter. One of the surprise cuts this preseason, he could provide depth and even challenge right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai during the season.

FS Adrian Colbert

The veteran free safety is still young at the age of 27. Colbert also had two solid outings in the pre-season for the New England Patriots. There were a lot of talks about the Lions using split looks and three safety sets this season. And they are clearly lacking depth at safety.

One issue with Colbert is that he struggles to stay healthy during his career and he’s missed a ton of time because of it. However, when he’s been on the field there is no lack of production.

SS Karl Joesph

If Detroit isn’t comfortable with Will Harris as their starting strong safety they could look to veteran Karl Joesph who was cut by the Las Vegas Raiders. He’d be a short-term upgrade which could allow the front office to take their time in finding a player for the future.
