Georgia football and Lions fans congratulate Matthew Stafford for winning Super Bowl 56

Fansided

On Sunday night, Matthew Stafford won his first Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. He’s made a few stops along the way.

Stafford, of course, went to college at the University of Georgia before he drafted No. 1 overall by the Detroit Lions.

While it didn’t work out in Detroit in terms of playoff success, Lions fans will never forget his 12 seasons as starting quarterback. Stafford was anointed the face of the franchise at a young age, and despite failing to deliver on the game’s biggest stage, it’s tough to blame anything on him. Stafford played his heart out in MoTown.

Much of that mentality came from Stafford’s time between the hedges as a collegiate athlete. Georgia groomed him, Detroit made him what he is and Los Angeles helped fulfill his potential as a Super Bowl champion.

Lions fans are thrilled Matthew Stafford got a ring

How could any Lions fan be upset? Stafford didn’t choose to leave, he was traded. Plus, it’s not like Detroit has had much success without him. This is an ideal ending for both sides.

Georgia football fans show Matthew Stafford love

It’s a damn good year to be a Georgia fan, that’s for sure. The Bulldogs won the National Championship AND one of their very own took home the Super Bowl.

Stafford has long been a Georgia fan favorite. Now, he has the Lombardi Trophy he deserves.
