4 Detroit Lions to watch against the Colts in the second preseason game

SideLion Report

The Detroit Lions will take on the Indianapolis Colts in their second preseason game, and these four players will be ones to watch

As much as preseason results matter/don’t matter in the big picture, the Detroit Lions had a deflating late loss to the Atlanta Falcons in their preseason opener. There was a lot to like from the game, but learning to close out games is still a thing after some narrow losses last season.

The Lions will get a theoretically sterner test against the Indianapolis Colts in their second preseason game on Saturday. That will follow two days of practice sessions against the Colts on Wednesday and Thursday, which are arguably more valuable than the game will be.

But the second preseason game will be important for a lot of Lions players, as they look to build on the preseason opener, rebound from a bad ending to that game, make a strong move toward a roster spot or role, etc.

Here are four Detroit Lions players who will be worth watching against the Colts.

4. CB Jeff Okudah

Yes Okudah made this same players to watch list for the preseason opener, but he fits again heading into the second preseason game against Indianapolis. He looked pretty good over 18 snaps against the Falcons, apart from one play he focused on after the game, but he may play a little more against the Colts as he looks to make a push for the starting role opposite Amani Oruwariye.

It’s also safe to say the Colts wide receivers (Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce…) will be a stern test for Okudah and the Lions’ cornerbacks, from the joint practices (Day 1 was not so great by most accounts as of this writing) right through to Saturday’s game. The third-year man will have lots of eyes on him, internally and externally, until further notice.
