Detroit Lions injury report: Week 1 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

SideLion Report

Here’s the final Week 1 injury report for the Detroit Lions heading into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In the 2022 season opener, the Detroit Lions will be looking to avenge an embarring 44-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles from Week 8 last year. That loss, right before the bye week, was a turning point in the Lions’ season and spurred notable changes.

The Lions should be far more competitive against the Eagles this time around. It would be an upset win if they beat them, for sure, but a loss of even double-digits would be a surprise and the betting odds back that up.

Friday’s final Week 1 injury report is out, and here’s how it looks for the Lions.

Detroit Lions injury report: Week 1 vs. Eagles

OG Tommy Kraemer (back)-Out
DT Levi Onwuzurike (back)-Out
S Ifeatu Melifonwu (hamstring)- Doubtful
C Frank Ragnow (groin)-Questionable
LB Julian Okwara (hamstring)-Questionable

Linebacker Chris Board, defensive lineman John Cominsky and kicker Austin Seibert went from limited or no practice participation on Wednesday to being full participants the last two days. All three carry no injury designation for Sunday.

The clear headliner here is Ragnow. The Lions’ Pro Bowl center (2020) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Friday due to a groin injury, with a missed practice in between on Thursday, and he seems to be legitimately questionable. With right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai on IR with a back injury and Kraemer, Vaitai’s early most likely replacement, out, the Lions’ offensive line could be quite thin going up against a good Eagles’ defensive front on Sunday.

Melifonwu was limited all week after missing a lot of time in camp. He’s doubtful, probably primarily because he’s just not quite ready to play more than he’s still greatly injured. Onwuzurike was always very iffy for Week 1 as he has just not progressed much with his back injury, so his being out is no surprise. Okwara also missed a lot of time in camp, so we’ll see if he’s active on Sunday after being listed as questionable.
