The Detroit Lions made a move to bolster their running back room on the eve of training camp.

The Lions re-signed running back/kick returner Justin Jackson on Saturday, and waived running back Greg Bell.

Jackson ran for 170 yards on 42 carries last season and was the Lions’ primary kick returner. He averaged 26.7 yards per kick return, fourth among players with at least 20 returns.

The Lions revamped their running back room this offseason, letting leading rusher Jamaal Williams walk in free agency and trading D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles. They signed David Montgomery and drafted Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round, No. 12 overall, and Jackson will compete for the No. 3 job along with Craig Reynolds, Jermar Jefferson and Mo Ibrahim.

The Lons open training camp Sunday.
