Penei Sewell pitched another shutout in pass protection

USA Today

If Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell were a baseball pitcher, he would be a leading candidate for the Cy Young Award. Throwing four shutouts in five starts would be an express pass to pitching’s highest honor. And that’s what Sewell has done to start the 2023 season in pass protection for Detroit.

For the third straight game, Pro Football Focus did not assess one single QB pressure to Sewell. He was a perfect 30-for-30 in pass-blocking reps against Carolina in Week 5.

For the season, Sewell has allowed two pressures in PFF’s analysis, both against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 while playing left tackle. He does have three holding penalties on the season, but that slate was clean in Week 5.

Not bad for a player in his third NFL season who just turned 23 years old and has flopped from right tackle to the left side and back again in the first five weeks.
