Lions Brad Holmes has been ‘grinding’ during the trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline is right around the corner. It’s been pretty quiet this year for all teams, but you never know what could happen on Halloween day. The Lions have yet to make a deal, but the thought around the league has been that the Lions are buyers and that they could be aggressive at the deadline.

Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell may have confirmed that on Saturday. Campbell was asked if the trade deadline stuff could affect the Lions preparation for Monday’s game. Here’s what he had to say.

“Yeah, they’ll be some things that could come up. You know, now Brad’s been grinding. I mean, he hasn’t stopped on that. So that’ll continue. That’ll go all the way up to game time beyond. But that won’t affect me or us or anything we do, and we’re business as usual.”

It’s the “grinding” and “hasn’t stopped” part that really sticks out. It would appear that Brad Holmes has been working the phones this week in an effort to get the Lions a little bit of extra talent. This isn’t the first time Campbell has noted that Holmes is on the phone this week either.

When Campbell was on 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday, he said “I know he’s (Brad Holmes) going through a lot of things and when it becomes serious, he’ll bring it to me.”

Then when Campbell was asked if Brad Holmes had brought anything interesting to him he took a pause and said “maybe.” Then smiled and the presser ended.

We’ll see where this goes in the coming days. It’s important to note that while Holmes is working the phones and is trying to get something done, it takes two to tango when it comes to a trade. If the Lions can’t get one done, that doesn’t mean they didn’t try. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
