Lions make some roster moves ahead of Chargers game

It’s Saturday before the game. It’s time for the Detroit Lions to do their weekly roster shuffling. Not a lot was done today since the Lions are pretty healthy. In fact, they only did one thing on Saturday. Here it is.

Lions elevate Jake McQuadie to active/inactive list

It’s the move you knew was coming. The Lions lost long snapper Scott Daly to Injured reserve after their Monday Night game against the Raiders. They immediately signed Jake McQuaide to their practice squad a few days later. He is now elevated for Sunday’s game.

The interesting thing is that he has not been signed to the Lions active roster. He’s been elevated to the active/inactive list. That means he’s elevated for just this one game.

That could mean that the Lions are looking to get Daly back in two weeks. It could also mean that they want to have as many players active as possible. Maybe the plan will be to elevate McQuadie this way for the next couple weeks.

I would expect McQuaide to be active for this game. The Lions do have two emergency long snappers, but I doubt they want to use Alex Anzalone or Aidan Hutchinson in that role.
