Dan Campbell updates Sam LaPorta’s injury status for the Lions vs. Rams

USA Today

The latest update on the status of injured Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is leaving the door open for the Pro Bowl rookie to possibly play in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

LaPorta suffered a knee injury in Detroit’s Week 18 win over the Vikings. Despite leaving the sidelines on a cart, head coach Dan Campbell was optimistic after the game that the injury wasn’t as serious as it looked at first. Campbell updated the status to lead off his press conference following Wednesday’s practice session.

“I don’t know if we’re quite there yet,” Campbell said when asked if a decision has been made on LaPorta’s status for the game. “He’s improving. He was out there at walkthrough (on Wednesday).”

As for a timetable of when the team will know if the superb rookie will play against the Rams?

“I don’t foresee us knowing anything or feeling like we can have a real good picture until probably Friday afternoon.”
