Almost every offseason, there’s a coaching change that shocks the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks seized that shocking ring on Wednesday, removing longtime head coach Pete Carroll.

Carroll will no longer be the head coach in Seattle but could remain with the team in a different capacity. per the team’s press release. He’s led the Seahawks over the last 14 seasons, racking up a record of 137-89-1. Carroll also posted a 10-9 record in the postseason and led Seattle to its only Super Bowl title after the 2013 season.

The Seahawks failed to make the playoffs in 2023, finishing 9-8. Seattle is just 25-26 over the last three seasons. Carroll lost his first meeting against the Lions but proceeded to win the next six, including the Week 2 meeting in September and also Detroit’s last playoff game, following the 2016 season.

The 72-year-old was the NFL’s oldest coach. He’s also served as the Seahawk’s VP of Football Operations, and that could be where Carroll focuses more time now that he’s no longer coaching his team.
