Former Vols standout involved in controversial play at end of NFL playoff game

The Detroit Lions won a playoff game on Sunday night for the first time since 1992 thanks in part to a controversial no-call that involved a former Tennessee Vols standout.

Near the end of the Lions’ 24-23 win against the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit cornerback Cam Sutton got away with a defensive pass interference call that would’ve kept the Rams’ final drive alive.

There was definitely a jersey pull there from the former Vol that prevented Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua from getting enough air to get to the ball.

But Sutton is far from the first cornerback to get away with a slight jersey pull in an NFL game this season. Still, it’s understandable why Rams fans were irate after the game.

Los Angeles ended up punting on fourth down after the incompletion and Detroit made sure that Los Angeles never got the ball back.

The Rams’ loss means that former Vols standout Byron Young, who had a terrific rookie season for Los Angeles, saw his season end. But Sutton, along with former Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and former Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker, will move on to the divisional round of the playoffs with the Lions.
