The Detroit Lions arrived in New York (technically New Jersey) for joint practices with the Giants. Before Monday’s first session, head coach Dan Campbell informed in his press conference that a couple of Lions players will be less than full participants.
Tight end Sam LaPorta will sit out the first practice, and Brian Branch will be limited.
“The only one to note, because I know it’s coming — LaPorta is not going to practice today,” Campbell said. “And Branch will just get indy (individual workouts) and 7-on-7. He’s not going to get any team reps.”

Campbell continued with an admonishing tone, “Nothing long-term, don’t sweat.”
Campbell did not go into any detail on LaPorta’s absence. The tight end was a full participant throughout last week’s practices in Allen Park. Branch is returning from minor offseason knee surgery and has primarily worked only in walkthroughs and individual drills thus far.
