Lions hire Kelvin Sheppard as their new defensive coordinator

USA Today

After a week-long search to find a replacement for Aaron Glenn, the Detroit Lions have found their man to be the new defensive coordinator. And they stayed in-house to find him.

Lions linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard has earned the job as Glenn’s successor. Sheppard has been with the Lions for the last three seasons under Dan Campbell. He’s been instrumental in helping Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, Malcolm Rodriguez and Derrick Barnes into one of the NFL’s better LB corps–when healthy.

Glenn left the Lions to become the head coach of the New York Jets, and had long been expected to earn a promotion elsewhere.

The Lions already hired Kacy Rodgers as the new run game coordinator and defensive line coach. Rodgers is taking over for Terrell Williams, who left Detroit to become the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.
