Former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was named the Detroit Lions linebacker coach on Saturday evening. He was promoted from his previous role as the Lions assistant linebackers coach.

Hamilton played for Alabama from 2014-2017. He was a part of two national championship teams (2015 and 2017) with the Crimson Tide. In four seasons, Hamilton tallied 104 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions.

Following his senior season, Hamilton was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins). He spent three seasons with the team before spending his final season in the league with the Lions.

In 2022, Hamilton began his coaching career with the Lions as a defensive assistant. Since then, he has been a member of the Lions coaching staff.

After the Lions best season in franchise history, Hamilton will assume a larger role with an up-and-coming organization. This should be a good opportunity for Hamilton as he looks to climb the ladder in the coaching ranks.
