Lions lose key scouting department leader just ahead of Combine

USA Today

The Detroit Lions scouting department is taking a hit just days before the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lions Director of Scouting Advancement Mike Martin is leaving Detroit for the college ranks.

Martin is heading to Notre Dame, where he will serve as the football program’s general manager. He’s been with the Lions for the entirety of GM Brad Holmes’ four-year tenure. In his Lions role, Martin helped coordinate the college and pro scouting processes and reports, working with Holmes and the scouts to help formulate the team-building process. Martin spent over 20 years working in various scouting roles for several NFL teams.

Now, Martin jumps to the Fighting Irish program that lost in the CFP Championship Game. He will oversee the team with head coach Marcus Freeman.
