As the second wave of NFL free agency goes on, these five former Detroit Lions are still seeking a new team for 2022.
The Detroit Lions have re-signed a long list of their own free agents, with only small dips into the open market for others (DJ Chark, Garrett Griffin, Mike Hughes, Chris Board).
The idea of bringing someone who is a former Lion and a free agent back to Detroit is not far-fetched in the big picture, but a this point it’s unlikely. Not that anyone who is a former Lion should be a prominent free agent target for the current regime in Detroit.
With Wednesday’s news cornerback Justin Coleman has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, one former Lion is no longer looking for a new team this offseason. But there are plenty of others who are still are seeking a landing spot for next season, and at this point possibly could become nice value signings.
With the criteria of being at least one season removed from wearing Honolulu Blue, here are five former Detroit Lions who are yet without a new team for 2022.
5. OT Riley Reiff
2021 Team: Cincinnati Bengals
After being cut by the Minnesota Vikings last offseason, Reiff nearly got himself a Super Bowl ring with the Bengals in 2021. An ankle injury cost him the rest of last season after 12 regular season games. While his recovery progress will have to be known before he signs, it shouldn’t be a huge lingering concern for whoever signs him.
Reiff is not a top-tier guy or a perennial Pro Bowler, but he is a solid veteran who can play both tackle spots and can maybe even kick in to play guard if needed. He should land somewhere pretty easily as the secondary waves of free agency go on.
