Commanders vs Lions Prediction and Pick
Lions -1.5 (-112) vs Commanders
The Commanders survived a late charge from Jacksonville to win 28-22, but I wasn’t impressed with Carson Wentz and the Washington offense. In fact, the Jaguars seemed to have the game won before a late-game meltdown, and I think Detroit will show more composure under pressure.
Detroit’s improved offensive line allowed D’Andre Swift to rush for a career-high 144 rushing yards on only 15 carries. The Jaguars averaged 6.8 yards per carry with a much-worse line, so I expect another huge game from Swift. While the Lions’ rush defense struggled too, Washington averaged only 3.0 yards per carry and likely won’t take advantage.
I’m backing the Lions to pick up the home win, covering the spread for a sixth consecutive game at Ford Field. The Commanders are just 2-4-1 in their last seven games as road underdogs and I don’t have faith in Wentz to overcome his mistakes.
There’s a new franchise threatening to take the mantle of “America’s Team” and I’ll keep backing the Lions on the spread to enjoy the ride.
