3 Reasons the Lions Will Upset the Packers on Sunday

SideLion Report

The Lions have five straight losses but get the good fortune of facing a Packers team in Week 9 that has four straight losses itself. As a result, there’s a lot of value on Detroit to pull off the upset. I’ll explain why, but let’s first ensure you’ve utilized FanDuel Sportsbook’s incredible new promo for Lions fans: a risk-free $1,000 bet!

3 Reasons the Lions Will Upset the Packers

Superior Offense

It’s shocking to say, but an offense led by Jared Goff is significantly better than one captained by Aaron Rodgers. The Lions are fourth in the NFL in yards per play (6.2) while Green Bay is 15th (5.4).

Green Bay has scored more than 22 points just twice, and both of those games were over a month ago. Despite a couple of weeks of offensive struggles, Detroit averages 24.7 points per game. The Lions scored more than 22 points in five of seven games, and at least 35 four times already.

Rushing Attack

The Packers found success on the ground against Buffalo last week, rushing for over 200 yards. Most of that production came after the game was well out of reach though, and the Lions have been a superior running team on the season.

Detroit is fourth in the NFL in yards per rush attempt (5.2), while Green Bay is 10th (4.9). That’s significant because both teams rank in the bottom eight in the league in opponent yards per rush attempt.

In a game with two teams that struggle to stop the run, the better rushing team will prevail.

Versatile Playmakers

Aaron Jones is a spectacular player, but he’s the only Packers skill position player with much success this season. The Lions, on the other hand, have Jamaal Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown. That versatile offense will prevent the Packers from honing in on one player and gives Detroit options.

Williams has eight TDs this season and St. Brown looks like a budding star at receiver. Green Bay allowed 6.8 yards per play last week, albeit against Buffalo, but its struggling defense won’t be able to contain the Lions trio of playmakers.
