3 possible 2023 Detroit Lions free agent targets on the Green Bay Packers roster

SideLion Report

The Detroit Lions have a big game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, but the front office could have their eye on these possible free agent targets on the opposite sideline.

Sunday night’s game may only be a “win and in” for the Green Bay Packers by kickoff, but the Detroit Lions are clearly motivated to win just as much. They can play spoiler to the Packers, get their ninth win of the season and keep setting a promising tone for the future.

But as much as the game matters in that narrow frame, the Lions’ front office surely has one eye on upcoming offseason work. Some decisions will be made before then, but the start of the league year and free agency in mid-March is of course a tentpole point on the NFL offseason calendar.

Right now, the Lions have a decent amount of cap space for 2023 ($28.4 million projected according to Spotrac; $27.7 million according to Over The Cap). Those are both top half of the league numbers.

How aggressive general manager Brad Holmes will be in free agency, in his third free agency run, is unclear. But if the first two are any evidence, even as the roster build looks to be going well and some spending could be warranted, there won’t be any splashy signings.

While the Lions bring their best effort on the field Sunday night, the front office could have an eye on these three Packers who are slated to become unrestricted free agents in March.
