Detroit Lions ‘Sunday Night Football’ intros were as fun as expected (video)

SideLion Report

The Detroit Lions got a primetime moment Sunday night, and they took full advantage with their player intros.

The Detroit Lions had their moment in the primetime sun to close out the 2022 season Sunday night, and they came through on the field with a 20-16 win over the Green Bay Packers. With a winning season in the books, there should be more primetime games in 2023 and beyond as the future looks bright in Detroit.

Head coach Dan Campbell is often an unfiltered good quote, and that filters down to some players. But “Sunday Night Football” and the player intros are a fuller and unique opportunity to showcase personality or say something off the wall. Some guys note their high school, their hometown, etc. rather than just a dry acknowledgement of their college alma mater.

Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit recalled the buzz in the Lions’ locker room last Thursday, when the players were to do their intros for “Sunday Night Football.”

On Thursday, the entire Lions locker room was abuzz, as players filtered in and out of a side room in Allen Park. What were they doing in that room? Recording their quick player introductions for the “Sunday Night Football” broadcast. As players waited their turn, you could see some of them looking for inspiration by watching the “Key and Peele” sketch that was inspired by these introductions.

Jamaal Williams always has something fun or interesting to say when there’s a microphone in front of him. So he took a low-hanging fruit opportunity with his player intro. But he was not the only one to deliver.

Thankfully, Twitter user @highlghtheaven put the Lions’ player intros into one video clip.

Jamaal Williams: ‘Swag Kazekage leader of the Hidden Village of the Den” (what? lol)
Taylor Decker: “The” (went to Ohio State)
Penei Sewell: “Village of Malaeimi” (was born in Malaeimi, in American Samoa)
Aidan Hutchinson: “THE University of Michigan”
Malcolm Rodriguez: “Barry Sanders University” (they both went to Oklahoma State)
Alex Anzalone: “Gator Boy” (went to Florida)
Jerry Jacobs: “Harvard” (didn’t actually go to Harvard)
J-Kerb (Kerby Joseph): “Zoe life, no life

The Lions are in line for at least one scheduled primetime game next season, if not multiple. If one or more land on Sunday night, we can definitely expect more player intros just like these.
