2022 Fantasy Football season review: Lions quarterback Jared Goff

SideLion Report

Jared Goff had a nice closing stretch and a solid season on the whole, but how did that translate to fantasy football production this year?

Jared Goff closed the 2021 season, of course his first as a Detroit Lion, on a nice run. The question was if he could carry that into the 2022 campaign, or maybe even build on it. In a certain light, there was some real potential for him to be a fantasy sleeper.

Goff had a fine season, with 4,438 yards with 29 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He had another strong finish too, posting a 107.5 passer rating with 14 touchdowns and zero interceptions over the final seven games of the season.

For the season, through Week 18, Goff was the QB10 in fantasy. Trim back to Week 17, when many fantasy football leagues end, he was also QB10.

Here’s a finer breakdown of Goff’s 2022 season on the fantasy angle.

2022 Fantasy Football season review: Lions QB Jared Goff

Here’s how Goff finished among fantasy signal callers each week this season.

Week 1: QB18
Week 2: QB8
Week 3: QB18
Week 4: QB1
Week 5: QB29
Week 6: Bye
Week 7: QB28
Week 8: QB16
Week 9: QB19
Week 10: QB22
Week 11: QB26
Week 12: QB15
Week 13: QB4
Week 14: QB4
Week 15: QB17
Week 16: QB2
Week 17: QB7
Week 18: QB23

From Week 1-Week 4, Goff was QB5 in fantasy. From Week 13-Week 17, during what can rightfully be called “winning time” in fantasy football leagues, he was a top-10 fantasy signal caller four times in five weeks(top-five three times)–including semifinal and championship game weeks for leagues which ended in Week 17. Over that stretch (Week 13-17), he was QB2 in fantasy.

In 16 games (through Week 17), Goff was a top-10 fantasy quarterback six times. Of course he also finished outside the top-20 four times in that span, and outside the top-15 five other times.

Week 5-Week 11 was a rough stretch. Even through bye weeks Goff was probably not starting for many fantasy managers anyway, and he was not necessarily even rostered in a lot of leagues. But those who had a need and picked him off off the waiver wire in about Week 13, then found a better streaming option in Week 15 (an outdoor road game for Goff), might have had a surprising run in the fantasy playoffs.

It was pretty surprising to find Goff finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in 2022. Repeating it in 2023 will be a challenge, but it’s not out of the question.
