Detroit Lions being ‘pegged’ as the top trade suitor for Jalen Ramsey

SideLion Report

The Detroit Lions are easy to match with Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and a report from over the weekend ‘pegs’ them as possibly the top trade suitor.

It feels like a matter of when, not if, the Los Angeles Rams trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Several teams will, or should, have interest. Due to past ties, with general manager Brad Holmes having worked in the Rams’ front office for years before coming to Detroit, and need, the Detroit Lions have been an easy team to tie to Ramsey.

Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown recently used his public forum via his podcast to recruit Ramsey. Broader buzz attaching Ramsey and the Lions has lingered, and the start of the new league year is looming next week.

The Rams may be seeking, and they may be able to get, a first-round pick for Ramsey as they start to entertain offers. As we know, the Lions have two picks in the top-18 of April’s draft.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had some buzz from the NFL Combine over the weeked (subscription required). However obviously or naturally, given the buzz around his name, there was a bit of Ramsey news within the fulller context of players the Rams are set to unload.

As for Ramsey, several teams are pegging the Detroit Lions as a viable option, but Detroit has been a build-through-the-draft team under GM Brad Holmes, so true intentions are yet to be determined,

Holmes has indeed been (and will continue to be to a large degree), committed to building through the draft. But there should be opportunities to make notable veteran additions on the trade and/or free agent market this offseason. With expectations reaching a division-winning level for next season, those opportunities can’t just be turned away from.

Sometimes, metaphorically speaking, where there’s smoke there’s fire in these situations. There’s plenty of Ramsey-to-the-Lions smoke right now, so we’ll see if there’s ultimately a fire in the form of a blockbuster trade.
