Detroit Lions 53-man roster projection after the 2023 NFL Draft

SideLion Report

After the 2023 NFL Draft, here’s a fresh 53-man roster projection for the Detroit Lions.

The 2023 NFL Draft is over, and teams have signed many undrafted free agents. In total, the Detroit Lions have added 22 new faces to the mix right now–eight draft picks and 14 undrafted rookies. The odds each make the 53-man roster heading into the season correlates to two things to some degree–1. Draft capital spent. 2. Position depth on the roster.

OTAs and minicamp will be very important for some players, if only to make an early impression on the Lions’ coaching staff. Some roster spots, or even starting roles, will be battled for strongly during training camp and the preseason.

The Lions will certainly make some hard decisions when it comes to the final roster cutdown before Week 1, and many players they cut may land elsewhere fairly quickly. When’s the last time that could be said?

In any case, here’s a new, post-NFL draft 53-man roster projection for the Detroit Lions.

Quarterbacks (3)

Jared Goff
Nate Sudfeld
Hendon Hooker

Hooker is tentatively expected to be ready for training camp as he works his way back from a torn ACL. Even if he’s not quite fully healthy at the start of camp, Week 1 would appear likely. Sudfeld should start the season as the QB2, but Hooker could be the one who plays if something happen to Goff later in the season.
