Detroit Lions sign wide receiver Dylan Drummond after rookie minicamp tryout

SideLion Report

After an impressive showing at rookie minicamp, the Detroit Lions have signed former Eastern Michigan wide receiver Dylan Drummond.

On Monday, the day after their rookie minicamp ended, the Detroit Lions announced they have signed former undrafted rookie wide receiver Dylan Drummond.

Drummond was one of 10 players invited to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, surely with a local tilt since he’s an Eastern Michigan product. Reviews of his work by media who were on-site for Day 2 of minicamp on Saturday noted how good he looked, including Tim Twentyman of the Lions’ website.

Caught my eye: Watch out for Eastern Michigan University wide receiver Dylan Drummond who is here trying out. He’s super quick and made a lot of nice plays Saturday. He also has good size (6-0, 194).

Drummond spent five seasons at Eastern Michigan. He had 33 receptions for 525 yards (15.9 yards per catch) and three touchdowns over 10 games last season. His best season was in 2021 (64 catches for 704 yards and six touchdowns), and he also had 55 catches in 2019. He also did a little bit of return game work, with 21 punt returns and 18 kickoff returns over the course of his college career.

Dylan Drummond another addition to Lions competition at wide receiver

Drummond will now join the Lions’ 90-man offseason roster. Making the final 53-man roster will be an uphill climb, but he’ll get a longer look as full-team voluntary workouts and OTAs roll on this month.

As an undrafted guy out of a directional school in the MAC, without high-end production or speed/athletic testing numbers, that extended opportunity is all Drummond can ask for and the Lions saw something they liked. If the Lions don’t keep him around, another team may give him a shot.

The Lions also announced the signing of third-round pick defensive tackle Brodric Martin on Monday. So that leaves four unsigned draft picks now–Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch.
