Two free agents the Detroit Lions should consider signing

SideLion Report

With the brunt of free agency done and the draft in the books, here are two free agents the Detroit Lions should have on their radar.

The draft is done. The free agency buzz has died down, but the Detroit Lions have roster holes they could look to fill. Finding really good fits among remaining free agents can be difficult, but there are some who might make sense.

The Lions need more help along the defensive front, and it was surprising when they didn’t aggressively address it in the draft. They did bring back Isaiah Buggs and John Cominsky early in free agency, and third-round pick Brodric Martin may find a role right away in a rotation with Buggs at nose tackle.

Adding someone else to the defensive line might happen, even at this point in time. A couple notable veterans could be on the Lions’ radar.

Frank Clark has spent the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. During those four seasons, Clark racked up 23.5 sacks and 32 tackles for loss. Clark, who will turn 30 in June, still has plenty of good football ahead of him. He is surely looking to play for a contending team at this stage of his career , and the Lions certainly fit that bill.

Yannick Ngakoue would be another fantastic addition to this defensive line. Ngakoue spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, as he tallied 9.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits.

Ngakoue has become well-traveled. But at just 28 years old he should have some peak years left, and he has at least eight sacks in all seven of his NFL seasons. The Lions could bring him in on a one-year, prove-it deal.

Signing Clark or Ngakoue would add a proven formidable pass rush threat opposite Aidan Hutchinson, who faced plenty of double-teams as a rookie last year. The price has to be right, naturally, but Brad Holmes should have both of these guys broadly on his radar among available options to add to the Lions’ defensive line.
