That fortune is set to correct this year. Even if the Vikings’ defense is naturally better, the overall roster might be a little worse–and it’s at least lighter on experience.
The Vikings are lined up to win, what.. nine games this year? Maybe less? Only a repeat of last year’s luck stands to make them a real threat to the Lions in the division.
1. Jared Goff plays better than he did in 2022
Goff had one of the best seasons of his career last year, that’s undeniable. He also has offensive coordinator Ben Johnson back, which may help him ward off the cloud of regression this year. A long streak of pass attempts without an interception (324 and counting come Week 1) invites the idea of some correction there.
It’s more likely Goff drops off from last year this year than improves from that level, even if it’s just a little bit of regression. But if he somehow finds another level in 2023, that would be a dream scenario for the Lions and Lions’ fans.
