Lions injury updates on David Montgomery, Gibbs and Branch

Yardbarker

The Detroit Lions are going to be losing running back David Montgomery for while per Lions head Coach Dan Campbell.

“He’s got a little something in there you know, the cartilage.” Campbell said. “And so it’s, you know, he’s probably gonna be down for a little bit here. I don’t know how long. That’ll just be really how long it takes for this to (heal.) At his position. You know, that’s not an easy thing to deal with. So we’ll just take it as it comes. But, you know, I think there’s a chance we won’t have for a little bit or potentially.”

Campbell wasn’t sure at the moment if Montgomery’s injury was bad enough for him to be placed on IR. We’ll update you as soon as we get more news on that.

Jahmyr Gibbs

Campbell was much more positive on Gibbs potential availability for Sunday against the Ravens.

“Feel a lot better about Gibbs this week. You know, he ran really well on Saturday before we left and had another really good workout today.”

Getting Gibbs back would be huge for the Lions. Especially with Montgomery out for the foreseeable future. Fantasy owners are probably going to be very excited becasue the likelihood is that if he’s able to go, he’s the Lions lead running back until Montgomery returns.

Brian Branch

We didn’t get a lot of information on Branch outside of Campbell saying he also felt a lot better about Branch’s chances to play this week. Campbell said that he had a good workout on Monday morning. We’ll see what happens on Wednesday when the Lions have their first practice of the week.

James Mitchell

Same thing with Branch. Mitchell was included in the handful of names that Campbell said he felt really good about. Still waiting for Mitchell to really take off this year. Sam LaPorta has been great, but Brock Wright is having a really rough season. Mitchell could give the Lions another receiving threat once he’s ready to go.
