Lions injury report: Week 8 kicks off without 5 Detroit players

USA Today

With everything on the schedule pushed back by a day with the Detroit Lions playing on Monday Night Football in Week 8, the first official practice injury report did not come until Thursday.

Head coach Dan Campbell indicated before practice that running back David Montgomery would not take the field, and that proved true. Montgomery continues to be sidelined with bruised cartilage in his rib cage.

He was joined on the sidelines by four other Lions:

LG Jonah Jackson – ankle

DT Benito Jones – ankle

C Frank Ragnow – toe/calf

LB Malcolm Rodriguez  – ankle

Guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai was listed as limited with his ongoing knee injury.

In some good news, starting CB Jerry Jacobs was a full participant. Jacobs missed the Week 7 matchup after injuring the knee in practice last Friday.

Rookies Brian Branch, Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs all avoided appearing on the injury report, a positive development indeed.
