Lions make a couple roster moves on Thursday

The Detroit Lions are on a bye week, but the business is still moving. Since the Lions win on Monday, the  Lions have done a few things of note. One of them was trading a sixth round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Donovan Peoples-Jones before the trade deadline on Tuesday.

The Lions sent long-snapper Scott Daly to injured reserve to make room on the 53-man roster for Peoples-Jones. There should be another move soon to add the newly signed Jake McQuaide to the active roster at some point before the Lions game against the Chargers.

On Thursday the Lions make a couple other moves. Let’s take a look at what those were.

Waived running back Devine Ozigbo

This is a pretty good sign that David Montgomery will be returning on the other side of the bye. The Lions don’t need Ozigbo on the active roster if that is the case. There’s a good chance that Ozigbo could find himself back on the Lions practice squad relatively soon.

Waiving him does open a roster spot. The Lions immediately filled that spot.

Signed linebacker Trevor Nowaske to active roster from practice squad

This is nice to see. Nowaske at one point in time was giving special teams ace Anthony Pittman a run for his money for a roster spot during training camp. He had a really good pre-season too.

Don’t expect to see a ton of Nowaske in the Lions defense though. He’s more than likely going to spend plenty of his time on the Lions active roster in the special teams world when he’s active on game day. It will be great for the undrafted rookie to get a shot at doing some things that can help him stick on the roster.
