Detroit Lions News: Frank Ragnow OUT, Alex Anzalone IN, Buggs To Play? Lions vs. Bears

Lions Nation Unite
The Detroit Lions (9-3) are taking on the Chicago Bears (4-8) in week 14 and each team has declared their injury designations ahead of their divisional game.

Let’s take a look at which Lions players have been ruled out and which will enter this weekend with an injury designation.

Ruled OUT
C Frank Ragnow (toe/back/knee)
QB Hendon Hooker (ACL) — Still on NFI
As coach Dan Campbell alluded to during his morning press conference, Ragnow will not play this weekend due to his knee injury.

“Yeah, I don’t see him going,” Campbell said. “I don’t see him going, but he is improving. He’s getting better, he’s getting better. So, yeah, I don’t see him going.”

Expectations are that Graham Glasgow will slide over to center leaving the starting right guard position open and most likely filled by rookie Colby Sorsdal.

“As far as his psyche overall, I feel like he’s in a good place,” Campbell said of Sorsdal. “I mean, I think he understands (fundamentals is) what we go back to. This isn’t because you’re afraid. It’s the fundamentals, right? It’s your pad level, it’s your first step, it’s pass and a twist, it’s snapping with your hands and he knows that. He realizes that. So, I feel like he’s in a good place in that regard and we just keep working on those little things that all young players have to: the fundamentals of your job.”

Switching back to the right side should help with Sorsdal’s fundamentals, as he has been playing on that side for the past four and a half seasons. That being said, if he struggles as he did on the left side, the Lions have shown that they’re willing to give other linemen—Kayode Awosika, Dan Skipper, etc—an opportunity to beat him out for the job.

Hooker being ruled out is due to the fact that the Lions do not plan on activating him ahead of this week’s game. He practiced in full this week and still has another week remaining on the evaluation clock before the Lions will be pushed to decide on his status.

Questionable
LB Malcolm Rodriguez (ankle)
Rodriguez has been limited in practices this week, but he’s still been practicing, which is a good sign for his availability on Sunday.

Not listed with an injury designation
LB Alex Anzalone (hand)
Anzalone missed last week with a hand injury that required a screw to medically strengthen his thumb, but he was practicing in full all week and the Lions don’t see it limiting him on the field.

“No, (I) feel good about it,” Campbell said of Anzalone’s injury limitations. “I don’t see any deficiencies. He’s got it protected. I see him using it, so I feel like he’s in a good place. It’s there, but he’s not letting it affect him.”
