The Lions are now one big step closer to losing Ben Johnson

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is expected to be the most sought after head coaching candidate in the NFL this offseason. Whenever the Lions season ends, Ben Johnson season will begin around the NFL. We just took a massive step towards Johnson being gone on Friday though.

The Los Angeles Chargers have fired head coach Brandon Staley the day after the Chargers were dominated by the Las Vegas Raiders 63-21. The Chargers are considered to be one of the top landing spots for Johnson for multiple reasons.

The top one being Justin Herbert. Johnson has helped craft Jared Goff into playing some of the best football of his career, imagine what he can do with a guy like Justin Herbert who has more tools in the tool chest than Goff does.

Austin Ekeler is also someone that can benefit greatly from Johnson. Especially since Johnson has coached the Lions to the third best rushing unit in the NFL right now.

We’ll see if he winds up taking this job or another one, but they are definitely going to interview him and throw money at him. This could be a hard one to pass up.
