Five Detroit Lions have been named to the 2024 Pro Bowl games, the league announced on Wednesday evening. Let’s get right into it and break it down player by player.

TE Sam LaPorta — Obviously, this is LaPorta’s first-ever Pro Bowl selection, considering he’s a rookie. LaPorta is currently sixth among NFL tight ends with 860 receiving yards. He ranks fifth all-time in rookie tight end receiving yards, and his nine touchdowns are just three off the rookie tight end record.

C Frank Ragnow — This is Ragnow’s third Pro Bowl honor, and it’s much deserved this year. Not only is his PFF’s top-graded NFL center (87.7) but he’s managed to do it while dealing with several injuries each week. His toe injury has lingered all season, while he’s also been listed with back, knee, and calf injuries this year.

RT Penei Sewell — This is Sewell’s second straight Pro Bowl nod. He is having an absolute monster year. His 91.4 PFF grade is the highest among all offensive linemen. He has allowed just a single sack all season and ranks eighth in ESPN’s pass block win rate. This year, he also became a team captain for the first time.

It’s worth noting that by earning a second Pro Bowl nomination on his rookie contract, Sewell’s fifth-year option—which will have to be exercised this upcoming offseason—will now be even more expensive.

EDGE Aidan Hutchinson — This is Hutchinson’s first Pro Bowl nod after missing out on Defensive Rookie of the Year last season. Though Hutchinson only has 9.5 sacks this season (t-20th), his 93 total pressures (per PFF) ranks third in the NFL and is way up from his total last season (53). For the season, Hutchinson has 47 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

ST Jalen Reeves-Maybin — Surprisingly, this is Reeves-Maybin’s first-ever Pro Bowl nod, despite being one of the best special teamers in the league for several years. Per TeamRankings, Reeves-Maybin is currently tied for the most special teams tackles in the NFL (13).

Five Pro Bowl players are the most the Lions have had since the 2014 season (Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Ndamukong Suh, and Glover Quin). But Detroit has a good chance of surpassing that total because they also have seven players currently listed as alternates, including two who are the top alternates. They are:

QB Jared Goff (second alternate)
RB Jahmyr Gibbs (first)
RB David Montgomery (fourth)
WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (first)
G Jonah Jackson (third)
LB Alex Anzalone (fifth)
PR Kalif Raymond (fourth)
