The Lions have already traded for a cornerback this offseason in Carlton Davis. They also signed Amik Robertson in free agency.
Both play with an edge just like Newsome, which could make him a natural fit in Detroit.
“The Lions have added some swagger at cornerback, with Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson, but there’s never too much swagger in a cornerback room if they can back it up with their play,” wrote Berreman.
Newsome has started 39 of the 41 games in his career. He has posted 128 combined tackles with 29 pass defenses and 2 interceptions.
After previous comments he would not take a pay cut to stay with the Dolphins, Howard had new remarks about what he’s looking for financially from a new team.
“My goal is always to try to win a Super Bowl. Don’t let the money get in the way of winning a Super Bowl. Some people get paid, and some people win a Super Bowl. Some people do both. You do both, you’re different. I want to be different. I want to win a Super Bowl now. I already got paid, so now (a Super Bowl) is what I’m looking forward to.”
In terms of the Lions’ specifically, Howard sounded open to the idea.
“I wouldn’t mind Detroit, even though it’s a little cold out there.”
One possible target continues to make waves on social media: Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills. Diggs is a familiar name to Lions fans from his time with the Minnesota Vikings. In his career against the Lions, Diggs has accounted for 674 yards and three touchdowns on 52 catches.
